Dustbowl Revival and Town Meeting. Delta Rae and Lauren Jenkins (Portland)

Dustbowl Revival is a "new" discovery for me. I came across them just a few short months ago when I saw that they were playing in Portland. The venue was giving away tickets and I happened to win a pair, so as much as I love going to concerts, a free show here and there is even better. And wow, these guys did not disappoint at all. In fact, they went right into the top of some of my favorite live acts that I've seen this year. They are definitely a live band with a sound that reminds me of a roots band with New Orleans jazz and southern bands mixed in, including everything from violin, upright bass, washboard playing, trumpet, and trombone. When this eight-piece band plays, they play so tight and with each other that you cannot help but be amazed at how well they play together, especially for a band seemingly put together by a Craigslist ad out in California. I love these guys and could not wait to see them again.
They even played their encore (two songs) down on the floor with the audience surrounding them, something straight out of the New Orleans street music vibe.

The opening band was nearly equally incredible as well, a Boston-bred indie folk rock band called Town Meeting that reminded me of bands like The Ghost of Paul Revere (from right here in Portland) as well as The Felice Brothers and even Old Crow Medicine Show (whom they just happen to be opening for here in Portland this week. The musicianship amongst theses guys was awesome to watch and witness as they played a forceful set. I ended up chatting with a couple of the guys after the show and they seem like great, genuine guys as well.

Delta Rae came back to Portland after a year or two away, choosing to play Boston instead, the past couple of tours. When Delta Rae comes around, I also make a point of seeing them. The three blonde siblings and their two friends have now moved to Nashville and have adopted a bit of that country sound, thanks in large part to being signed to Big Machine Records (the same home to Taylor Swift and their opening act, Lauren Jenkins). The duo female vocals are astounding to hear live and can definitely provide chills when they hit those high notes. I love their Fleetwood Mac-type sound and they just seem to get better and better every time I see them.

Lauren Jenkins (a new recuit from the record label Big Machine out of Nashville) opened the show for Delta Rae and I really dug her sound, having known little to nothing about her other than she's been an actress for a few years. She was a Rolling Stone "Artist to Watch" in 2016. Look for her to potentially get the same attention that Maren Morris and Miranda Lambert have gotten in the past, if her marketing team does a good job.
