Iron and Wine (for free, not a bad way to spend a Sunday Night). In This Moment.
Iron and Wine was playing for free at Prescott Park in Portsmouth, NH a couple of weekends ago, so I headed down there. I was half-expecting to see Sam Beam with his backing band but quickly discovered this was a solo performance when he came out on his own and played a set of mellow, heart-breaking themed songs that seemed to fit the mood of the quiet summer, Sunday evening with the sun setting in the distance.
Prescott Park is an interesting venue, as it is an outdoor, public park that fills almost immediately with people in chairs or sitting on blankets, carrying on conversations throughout the artist's set. It's hard to focus, especially during a quiet, mellow performance such as Iron and Wine. Nonetheless, I was happy to see him again (for a cheap $5 donation price).

In This Moment played a theatrical show at the State Theatre last week. Full disclosure, I had not heard much of their music prior to this show, having only checked out a few of their songs on Spotify. My girlfriend had been looking forward to seeing them, though, and I was happy to see a concert with her. Unfortunately, we were both underwhelmed and disappointed by the live show, which doesn't happen for me very often. One of the opening acts was a heavy metal inspired burlesque troupe of ladies that attempted to amp up the crowd during the intervals. Motionless in White was one of the leading opening acts and they seemed to get the crowd going way more than headliners In This Moment, which is interesting. They seemed to have way more of a following within the crowd.
