Concerts!! Concerts!! Concerts!!
Zella Day (for the 3rd time) recently played in Boston at a small club, which is great for her sound. I fell in love with her music and sound when I happened to catch her in Portland a just last year. She puts on one hell of a live show, with tons of energy and appreciation for the crowd showing up.

I also have to catch up on a couple of shows I went to in Boston this past week with my sister. Thankfully, I had convinced her a month or so ago to come with me to see the reunited Hey Mercedes (which is ex-Braid members- a staple in the emo community). She agreed to go even though it was a weekday, late show, especially when she found out that her favorite band- The World is a Beautiful Place- was one of the opening bands. They always put on a great set, but I was beyond excited to see Hey Mercedes, since I missed them in their very brief heyday (they played at the Asylum here in Portland back in like 2001, a show I missed somehow).

Then, Thursday night, I traveled back to Boston to catch a show from local MA indie rockers, The Hotelier, which is a band my sister got me into just recently. They are celebrating and touring behind their newest album "Goodness" which is fantastic. Their energy is incredible and quite infectious.

And the next night, back in Portland, I went to see Lauryn Hill (you know, from Sister Act 2 and The Fugees fame in the '90s, not to mention her own stellar, classic solo album and an incredible Mtv Unplugged Live album from a few years back, when she came out of isolation for a soul-gripping 2 hour performance. I had heard hit-or-miss things about her live shows, and that she was notorious for being late and complaining, so I wasn't expecting much, but oh boy, did she really bring it all on this past Sunday night's show.
