Long-Awaited Soundgarden Reunion and Nine Inch Nails Show
Last Tuesday I had the extreme pleasure of going to see Soundgarden play a reunion show, also a bit celebratory as the 20th anniversary of their wonderful '90s album "Superunknown" which was a staple in my musical upbringing as a teenager. They were the opening act for Nine Inch Nails, whom I've seen I believe about 5 times now. Their set was a bit stripped down, with only 3 other members back ing Trent Reznor, whose stage show was also rather minimal. They seemed to rush through their hour and a half set, perhaps because of Mansfield's curfew for shows at the Xfinity Center (formerly Great Woods formerly Tweeter Center formerly...) That being said, NIN pulled out all their best-of hits from their catalogue and certainly did not disappoint with newer renditions of a few songs.
My wonderful girlfriend bought us tickets a few months ago as a birthday present to me, since my birthday was a couple days after the concert and it was a great present, for sure. We both got what we wanted: She'd been dying to see Soundgarden and I'll never pass on an opportunity to see Nine Inch Nails, because they've been one of my all-time favorite bands since I was like 12 years old and my cousin, Jason, introduced me to them via "Pretty Hate Machine." I was also fortunate enough to catch their performance at Woodstock '94, which cemented them as one of my favorite performers. Ever. Check it out, in its entirety, below. It's totally worth it!
Soundgarden's set was incredible and Chris Cornell's throaty singing has certainly stood the test of time.
