3 Amazing Concerts

Way overdue at this point. These concerts date back a couple of weeks, but nonetheless, here they are.

At the State Theatre, Wednesday night, was Jenny Lewis (of Rilo Kiley) playing a co-headlining gig with Kurt Vile (whom I was excited to see, but was also very tired by the time he got on stage and I felt like he was playing way too loud, which took away from his songs). I've appreciated his music through headphones and it just wasn't really a pleasant sound live. Jenny Lewis on the other hand, was incredible. I've loved her voice since I first heard her back in like 2000 fronting the great indie band, Rilo Kiley. Her setlist was a great mix of her stuff and Rilo Kiley songs, for us fans.

Sunday night, I traveled down to Boston to catch a band I had discovered thanks to their iTunes "Free Download" a couple of years ago. First Aid Kit. Swedish sisters, with a great mix of old 70s folk and country, but also keeping up with the contemporary sound. These girls were incredible live. I love going to these small clubs, like the Paradise Rock Club, and seeing indie bands. These sisters could definitely blow up and make it big. Check out their music. You won't be disappointed. Just look at the two songs they covered:

  1. Blue
  2. (Bob Dylan cover)
  3. Wolf
  4. Encore:

Monday night, another small venue, this time right in downtown Portland, at Port City Music Hall. Sleigh Bells! I know, I can barely believe that I wrote their name, too. And in Portland! They put on an amazing and energy-filled show and loud guitar music that sounds even better live.

  2. Encore:
