Shows and Shows and More Shows
The World is a Beautiful Place and I Am No Longer Afraid to Die has been an indie rock band on my radar, thanks to my sister, for the past few years, so every time they come to Boston we go and check them out. They are known for their multiple guitarists and sonic sound. They just released a pretty good album, kicked one of the members out, and teetered on the edge of not being a band, so seeing them in their "new" form was going to be interesting. This time around, they added a horn section for a few of their songs, which I have to admit, I do love and appreciate.
Animal Flag, again, opened for them and I just love and appreciate these guys more and more every single time they perform. I love that they open their sets with the 10-minute epic song (my favorite one). They played a few new songs off their upcoming album, too. Great way to start the night.

A Perfect Circle (like 11 years later, finally). It's been quite a few years since I've seen A Perfect Circle, so many years have passed that I am estimating 11 years or so. I remember them being incredible, of course. I will see Maynard James Keenan in any project he is in. This time around they were playing at the Civic Center here in Portland, a "large" venue, and the sound was absolutely incredible. They sounded amazing throughout the whole building. They've been working on a new album this year and so we got to hear a few new songs, but of course they played their old songs, too. It was an amazing show.
The Beta Machine opened for them and features the guitarist from A Perfect Circle with a female vocalist for most of the songs, which added a great element to the music.
Bully was in Boston last Sunday, playing a sold-out show at Great Scott. It was a super late show, with Bully taking the stage at 10:50p.m. but the wait was definitely worth it. The lead singer has such an amazing voice, very reminiscent of '90s alternative rock (re: Hole and Nirvana, if they were fronted by a female). Absolutely incredible show. Easily one of my favorite albums of the year, as well. Alicia (frontwoman) got her start as an intern in Steve Albini's recording studio, so yea... she knows what she's doing.
Art-alt-rock musician EMA came to Portsmouth and played 3SArtspace, a decent, small art gallery/venue. I have loved her music since I heard her first album a few years ago, so when I saw she was coming close to Portland, I was excited and knew I had to check her out. I was so disappointed that there were probably only about 50-60 people at the show, because she put on a great set and I wanted more people to appreciate her.
