A Couple of Concerts to Wrap Up the Year
A couple of weeks ago I went to see Matt Pond PA in Boston with my friend Courtney, who has been my Matt Pond enthusiast, although we've only seen them twice in the past few years together. I remember when she sent me the mixed CDs of all Matt Pond albums and EPs. I remember hearing his cover of "Champagne Supernova" on The O.C. over a decade ago, too.
This show was awesome, better than the last show we saw at the Middle East.
And a band called Moving Panoramas opened, which included one of Matt Pond's ex-collaborators. They had a great, shoegazing sound to them.
And then, last Monday, I went back down to Boston, but this time to see Delta Rae perform on their Winter Acoustic Tour, which saw them come to Portland last year, for a very small, intimate show at Longfellow Center. I was so happy to see that they were doing the same tour again this winter and I knew I had to see them, again (this was my third time seeing them). They are such an incredible live band, with a Fleetwood Mac and that classic-rock roots-folk sound that could probably also be defined as adult contemporary. And their opener this time was the same as last year- the incredible duo called Penny and Sparrow (two guys that channel their best imitation of Simon and Garfunkel but with their own flair and sound). It was such an awesome show.
