Concerts and Catching Up from April Vacation
It seems like I have some catching up to do, as I sit on my lunch break here at school, realizing I haven't written about the concerts I've gone to since our April vacation. I've been to quite a few, too.
I haven't been watching many movies, but rest assure, those reviews are still coming. I've just been busy with life outside and off the couch.
Back at the beginning of my April vacation I went to see a great new discovery for me, a band called The Ballroom Thieves, who were doing something sort of unprecedented- touring, a short 9 day tour, with the Maine Youth Rock Orchestra (which consists of high school musicians). This was an incredible show and I applaud the Ballroom Thieves for taking on such a project and showing students still learning what it's all about.
Kevin Devine has been around and well-respected in the indie rock scene for years, and I remember seeing him play with Manchester Orchestra as well as playing with members of MO in a side project titled Bad Books (which was equally great). This opening set, both nights was fantastic. I'm a big fan of his music and it sort of reminds me of old school grunge-era '90s music.
Night #2--- (no posted setlist, but this one looks familiar)

And the first weekend of vacation, I traveled down to Boston to see one of my favorite bands, Murder By Death play two shows, with completely different setlists and it was an incredible two days. I've loved this band since the early 2000s, when I discovered their first album because they were on the label Geoff Rickley (of Thursday) started. Their sound is unique to the indie rock scene. And their shows always generate a lot of energy.

During April vacation, I also went to see one of my sister's favorite (indie) bands of the past few years, with perhaps one of the best (and longest) band names- The World is a Beautiful Place and I am No Longer Afraid to Die. They were opening for Into It. Over It at the Royale and their set was great, filled with loud guitars galore.
