Concerts. So Many Concerts. (5 in 7 days)

So, I can thank my sister for introducing me to a great indie band called The World is a Beautiful Place and I Am No Longer Afraid to Die. I've seen them with her three times now and they are definitely an amazing live band. This time around they were headlining because they recently put out a new album which has garnered them a larger fan base, I guess, although the crowd seemed to thin when the opening band, Foxing (from St. Louis, MO-- and equally as great) ended their set.

Note: possibly incorrect, "Wendover" may have also been played

And the opening band, Foxing, had a great set as well.

Tuesday night, I went to see Grace Potter, who is rocking the solo tours recently. This was my 7th time seeing her and I think I would go anywhere I could to see her, because she is just absolutely amazing. I traveled to Concord, NH (about an hour and a half away) on a school night, because I just had to go see her again. She did not disappoint and relied heavily on her most recent, solo album "Midnight" playing almost every song on the album, plus some Nocturnals songs as well.

Thursday night, I traveled down to Boston to see one of my newest favorite bands- Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds, which my buddy Brian plays the saxophone for. I've seen them once before in Portland. They definitely put on a high energy show and have a good time. I got into them a few years ago because one of my friends began playing the saxophone for them and let me tell you, their brand of rock/soul/blues music is an incredible bag of tricks. For this show, they mostly focused on songs from their new album "The Weather Below" which is great and definitely one of my favorites from this past year. There is no setlist posted, but here are some videos of their live performances. Try not to fall in love with them.

Also, on Friday, one of my favorite local ensembles- The Fogcutters- did their annual Big Band Syndrome, in which they supported other local musicians and transform their songs into big band songs. Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds headlined this year, because my buddy had been with the Fogcutters since their inception. The band played 6 songs, since they're a nationally recognized band. Check out some performances from shows past.

Last night, I went to see Between the Buried and Me in Boston. It seems like it was only a few months ago that I saw them headline a show at a small venue in Portland, but I was more than happy to see them at the House of Blues in Boston. These guys are an incredibly awesome live band. Their new album "The Coma Ecliptic" is a wonderful adventure of a concept album. Their songs are extremely long, so their setlist was short but they still played for solid hour and a half.
