A Couple of Weekend Shows

Well, I haven't watched any new films lately, but I did go see two concerts over the weekend. Friday night, I went to see Delta Rae (who played Port City Music Hall over the summer), a diligent and hard-working, touring band really putting in a great effort to gain more fans and of a following. The first time I saw them, I had really only heard one of their songs, actually the video on VH1. Seeing them live, they gained a fan in me, enough so that I had to see them again, even though they'd played the same place a few months back. And I was glad that I went this time, because they've been working on a new album, so their setlist was completely different. As a girlfriend and I discussed after the show, the drummer (and bassist) really hold the band together.

There hasn't been a setlist posted for the small venue they played here in Portland, but their Boston set at the Royale looks similar.

  1. (chorus only)
  2. Run
  3. (new song, unsure of title)
  4. (Patti Smith cover)
  5. (1st verse and chorus only)
  6. (new song, unsure of title)
  7. Encore:

Then on Sunday night, I traveled down to Boston, visited by sister and babysat my nephew for a few hours (during which we played with Legos for a good, solid 2+ hours...so much fun!). Then I went to the Paradise, one of my favorite, sweaty, heated-packed, tight places to see a show, because it's very intimate. The band/performer is almost right there in the crowd with you, and they are usually acts that are just small enough to really appreciate the audience/their fans. At least, this is always the case when I go to a show here. Again, I was seeing someone I'd already seen, but she is so electrifying as a performer, I've had to go each time. ZZ Ward! I saw her first in Portland, then I saw her at the Paradise all this past summer, but I saw that she was coming back to Boston, already, and I was dying for another fix! She didn't disappoint either. She's an incredible performer, and it seems such a shame that she doesn't seem to be getting any more attention. She needs it!

No setlist posted as of yet, but check out some of her songs:
