2014 Oscar Predictions
It's that time of year and I thought it would be cool to put it out there my own predictions for this year's Oscars, since I've seen a ton of films this year.
Best Picture
"Gravity" (I'm kind of going out on a limb here, but I think the other films will split votes, and "Gravity" will win almost by default)
Best Director
Alfonso Cuaron- "Gravity"
Best Actor
Matthew McConaughey (it's no surprise or secret that the Academy loves transformational roles, and McConaughey lost 40 pounds and became completely enveloped by his character)
I will say, that there's definitely a part of me that wants Leonardo DiCaprio to finally win this award, since he's been overlooked several times and yet continues to prove he is an unbelievable actor
Best Actress
Sandra Bullock (I think this one will be quite a surprise, since Cate Blanchett has been getting the award in every other ceremony)
Best Supporting Actor
Jared Leto (this is almost a sure thing- Leto took on the transformation into a transgender AIDS-stricken victim much like Heath Ledger became The Joker)
Best Supporting Actress
Jennifer Lawrence (it is no secret that the Academy loves this American girl. This might be a sure thing, too, especially looking at the other actresses nominated)
Animated Film
"Frozen" (this film took the theatres by storm)
Cinematography
"Gravity"
Costume Design
"The Great Gatsby"
Documentary Film
"The Act of Killing"
Original Film Score
"Her"
Original Song
"Ordinary Love" by U2 (although, because of the storm created by "Frozen" I have a strong inclination that "Let It Go" will win, but I just really want to see Bono get up on stage and use the podium as his soapbox, almost as much as I wanted to see Trent Reznor defy the odds and win for his work on "The Social Network" soundtrack)
Adapted Screenplay
"Before Midnight" (this is the one I strongly suggest win, because of the great writing of the entire trilogy" but let's be honest-- "The Wolf of Wall Street" will win this one
Original Screenplay
"Her" (Spike Jonze is a great screenwriter and deserves his day/night in front of his admirers)
